Sumi walks to her office at the rate of 4 miles per hour. If she increases her walking speed by 1 mile per hour , she would reach her office half an hour earlier than the previous time. What is the distance in miles of her office from her house ?

Let the distance and time be d mile and T hours respectively.
So, d = 4T.
Again, d = (4 + 1) (T - 1/2)
or, 4T = 5(T - 1/2)
or, 4T = 5T - 5/2
or, 5T - 4T = 5/2
or, T = 5/2 hours
So, d = 4T = 4 x 5/2 = 10 mile.
